Safeguarding Supervision is a structured process for exploring and reflecting on Safeguarding Cases, with an aim to expand confidence and knowledge of how best to Safeguard patients, and manage the emotional toll that Safeguarding can take on staff.  This can be particularly helpful following a Child Death Review, or a difficult case with Safeguarding components.

Safeguarding Supervision is available to all staff, at request, from the Specialists within the Safeguarding Team.  The Safeguarding Team are not able to authorise abstraction for the purpose of a Safeguarding Supervision session, however if you are booking a session, you are welcome to discuss extraction with your line manager, or to book the session on a rest day. Safeguarding Supervision itself does not need any authorisation from your line manager.

A Safeguarding Supervision session will last up to one hour, and can be booked by emailing the Safeguarding Supervision team on: safeguarding.supervision@swast.nhs.uk .  Please include in your email what dates would suit you for a session, and an indication of the topic you would like to discuss- this will allow for the most appropriate member of the team to undertake your Safeguarding Supervision, in relation to their specialisms.  Alternatively, if there is a specific Specialist you would like to have Safeguarding Supervision with, please include this in your email.

In addition to one to one Safeguarding Supervision sessions, group sessions can also be booked.  If you would like to book a group Safeguarding Supervision for your team, please specify in your email.

Should you wish to discuss a case or topic for advice, outside of the Safeguarding Supervision process, please call the Safeguarding Team via the Central Advice line on 0300 369 0117 (option 7).  Within office hours, this will be answered by a Safeguarding Specialist, and outside of office hours the Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) and Specialist Paramedic in Emergency and Urgent care (SPEUC) on call will answer any Safeguarding queries.
