Clinical Governance Groups are case based sessions that provide an opportunity for a combination of teaching, reviews of recent audits and clinical discussion.
*Six pilot sessions commencing in Dorset and BNSSG*
The purpose is to provide a supportive and confidential environment to discuss concerns, learn from each other’s experiences, and discuss our practice and how we can improve it.
For the individual, but also an opportunity for the Trust to take away themes, learning from experiences’ (both good and where things haven’t gone so well), difficulties and to capture feedback so we can learn as an organisation.
We want to develop a culture where it is normalised to discuss incidents and peer-review incidents to support both an individual’s learning and development as well as organisational learning.
What to expect:
- Led by a mix of clinical lead, learning and development and patient safety facilitators, and include case discussion.
- Opening with a teaching session delivered by either the facilitators or an expert speaker. The first session topic is Paediatrics.
- An opportunity to discuss audits, their implications, and their impact on practice. The sessions will also provide an opportunity for clinicians to present and discuss cases related to the topics presented.
- Using a combination of the critical incident model of clinical supervision and the use of prompt questions influenced by the SEIPS (System Engineering in Patient Safety) model so that we can focus on the systems involved and how they interact, rather than concentrating on an individual’s actions.
While all are welcome to attend, as these sessions are primarily designed around a registered clinician’s scope of practice, places will be prioritised towards them, followed by unregistered lead clinicians then students and ECAs should demand exceed capacity. This may lead to places for non-registered staff being cancelled if demand is high
