An introduction to the very basics of cardiac A&P and ECG principles, suitable as a refresher for those starting out in front-line work or as  refresher for more established staff. Exploring ACS pathways and the changes commonly encountered on 12Lead ECGs, focussing but not limited to STEMI.

 

Suitable for any grade of front line staff using ECGs in their practice including ECAs, Nurses, Technicians and Paramedics. Students welcome if space allows.

 

Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

Starting from basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, moving through to the sign and symptoms of AMI and the main management principles.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of cardiac A&P and the electrical pathways.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the SWASFT 6 rules approach to ECG analysis.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the commonly encountered ECG changes with a focus on those indicating a ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction.
Session programme:
  • Introduction to ECG principles including lead views, wave forms and basics of cardiac A&P
  • Systematic methods for evaluating 12 Lead ECGs with a focus on MI.
  • Opportunity to explore other areas of ECG interpretation as wanted on the day.
