Achieve an understanding of the Paramedic & Nurse ECG Recognition Standards

This course is aimed at nurses and paramedics to increase their confidence in applying the Trust’s recognition standards to their application of 12 Lead ECGs in practice.

 

After a refresher of cardiac anatomy and physiology, underlying principles and waveforms, this interactive course will cover arrythmias including AV blocks and bundle branch blocks before moving on to STEMI and ACS pathways. Delivered live by Education Leads, there will be opportunities to ask questions and follow links to further resources.

 

Eligibility: This training is suitable for Paramedics, NQPs, Nurses and Advanced Technicians.

Topics will include:
  • Refresher of underlying principles
  • Basic anatomy and physiology of the heart
  • Review of Trust’s ECG recognition standards for nurses and paramedics
  • Arrhythmias including AV blocks
  • STEMI
  • STEMI mimics
  • ACS pathways

 

Course Format: An interactive discussion.

By the end of the course, attendees will be able to demonstrate:
  • An understanding of cardiac A&P and the electrical pathways.
  • Familiarity with the SWASFT 8 rules approach to ECG analysis.
  • An awareness of the commonly encountered ECG changes with a focus on those indicating a ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction.
  • An understanding of the ACS pathways.

These sessions will run twice a day on available dates. You only need to attend one session – either the morning or afternoon.
