Your insights are needed for this fantastic project

Project proposal

A research proposal is being prepared for the Office for Students (OfS), that addresses the discrimination and inequalities faced by LGBT+ students and staff on Paramedic courses. This is closely related to an impact on the mental health of LGBT+ students.

This work will develop storytelling and anti-discrimination educational toolkits, based on the lived experience narratives of LGBT+ students and network members. The resources would be created for the education and training of paramedic professionals, with the aim to achieve attitudinal changes.

If the application is successful, the project will commence on 1st January 2025.

Requirements

Participating students will be part of an LGBT+ Working Group, meeting once a month for 6 months to discuss major issues affecting LGBT+ students, patients and staff. Later, in early 2026, participants will be invited to 2 days of workshop to discuss the potential content and structure of storytelling and the anti-discrimination educational toolkits. In late 2026, students will also be invited to offer feedback on the produced resource, and later an evaluation of the impact. It’s possible that students will be paid for their contribution to this study, reliant on successful funding being awarded.

Location

In person (Dorset area), with virtual and hybrid options available.
