UPDATE
Following feedback from the 2021 course the attendance format has changed to make attendance more flexible.
One of the most challenging hurdles we faced when we ran the Science of Happiness last year with the SWAST was the fact that most staff were shift workers which made it really difficult to attend regular small group meetings or happiness hubs as we call them.
The course now will consist of a live lecture every Wed evening (recommended, but also recorded if you can’t make it).
The Happiness Hubs will now be drop in sessions, on Tues and Thurs at 1300 & 1800.
You just need to be a member of SWAST staff, and be willing to engage in the programme in your own time.
As with most courses on www.swastcpd.co.uk this course is fully funded for SWASFT staff. Students also welcome.
This course is not like most others we have advertised on SWASTCPD.
This course is not a wellbeing or self help course to improve your mental health and happiness; it is a course to explore the understand the what, how and why of happiness, based on rigorous evidence based and peer reviewed science.
But, when people complete this course, there has been a clear and measurable significant positive effect on student’s mental well-being.
Who is providing the course?
Prof Bruce Hood is one of the UK’s most eminent psychologists. He holds the Chair of Developmental Psychology at Bristol University where the “Science of Happiness” programme was developed. He is a best-selling author and presented the Royal Institution (2011) Christmas Lectures “Meet Your Brain.”
As well as working for Bristol University, he also runs his own company providing this course to Universities and other organisations. You can visit their website here.
Peer-reviewed Research
This course is based on peer-reviewed research published in scientific journals and the programme itself has been shown to be effective in raising mental well-being.
