This study day is a collaboration between Macmillan Cancer Support and North Bristol Trust.
The day will include presentations from national experts including Dr Pauline Leonard, Consultant Medical Oncologist Whittington Health and Philippa Jones, Macmillan Associate Acute Oncology Nurse Advisor, Joanne Stonehouse Macmillan Project Manager for South west ambulance service, as well as specialists with a local perspective, including Dr Christopher Herbert, Clinical Oncology Bristol. The speakers will be discussing new treatments in cancer care such as immunotherapies, implications for practice and participants will have the opportunity to discuss their service needs.
Learning outcomes include:
- Understand the need for an Acute Oncology Service, both nationally and locally Have an awareness of new therapies in cancer care – immunotherapies.
- Learn about the nature and management of acute oncological emergencies.
- Explore the management issues relating to diagnosing a cancer and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP).
- Discuss the implications of this service development for themselves, their patients and their clinical practice.
